It is based on a RISC processor with instruction set extension optimized for Flash handling. The superior wear leveling done by the controller chip involves all physical blocks including the ones containing static data to meet the most demanding requirements from users in a data traffic intensive environment.
The CF card consists of a 7+17 pin SATA compatible connector. The CFast cards are constructed with single-level-cell (SLC) or multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash memory devices. It employs a variety of sophisticated functions, such as error correction code (ECC) for dynamic error checking. Bad-block Management routines replace worn blocks with spare blocks reserved by the controller on card initialization.
The Wintec CFAST cards offer capacities ranging from 4GB up to 128GB (MLC) using industry standard MLC Toggle NAND flash paired with the A2 or PS31xx controllers. The Wintec CFAST card optimizes writes to the flash memory and implements highly intelligent block management, wear leveling and lifetime management schemes to increase overall drive endurance and reliability.
